I'm just curious to know how long you can last without watching a single episode
of anime, or for that matter, doing anything anime related? Is it easy enough
for you to let go of the anime for months on end, or would it be difficult to
get past only a week without the stuff?
Giving up a form of entertainment that I've devoted myself to for six years
sounds a bit uncomfortable for me, but I think I could probably manage a month
or two without it. Going through a single week without doing anything
anime-related (anime, manga, internet forums, etc) definitely felt like I was
missing something.
But I suppose the "withdrawal" symptoms start to kick in when you
decide to quit right away.
When you have completed a series in one format (manga or anime), do you often
have the urge to follow it again in the other?
If both a manga version and anime version is within reach for a particular
series, I always try to start with the anime and switch to the manga for a
series I really enjoyed. Moon Phase is a
recent example in which after falling in love with the anime series, decided to
collect the Tokyopop manga. And I got so hooked with the four paneled Azumanga Daioh manga that I immediately
purchased the DVDs once they were released.
It's fun to notice the differences between the two formats after switching, but
usually I don't do this kind of format switch very often since I mostly stick to
following a series as an anime.
How easy is it for you to lose yourself in the fantasy of an anime? Will you
typically watch a 30-minute episode and immediately let go of the experience
after finishing it, or do you treasure it even after watching it?
Anime is the most accessible form of escapism for me, and i would always find
myself "taking in" the viewing experience whenever I watch a really
good series. For instance, shows like Aria and Air have stories and settings
that are so unique and vivid that it's hard not to lose myself in the fantasy of
them. And so many times I would find myself attached to the characters in anime:
Whether they die, fall in love, or learn some lesson about their lives,
fictional characters in anime still manage to impact me emotionally.
Not sure if this makes me crazy or just someone totally bored out of his mind...
